MaxiComfort infinite-positionZero-gravity + Trendelenburg375 lb capacitySix sizes to 500 lbLifetime frame/mechanism warranty

Product review

True two-motor MaxiComfort positioning — zero-gravity and Trendelenburg presets with programmable memory — at $1,099, the lowest price of any US-brand infinite-position chair here, with Golden's lifetime frame/mechanism warranty and the strongest verified owner base in the category (4.6/5, 828 reviews at SpinLife). The catch: it is a superseded model limited to in-stock Medium chairs — Golden directs custom orders to the redesigned PR-535.

  • Zero-gravity infinite positioning at $1,099
  • Widest size range here: six sizes, to a 500 lb Extra Wide
  • Deepest verified owner evidence: 4.6/5, 94% recommended
  • Superseded model — in-stock sizes/fabrics only
  • Heat & massage are paid add-ons; basic 9V backup

Pride VivaLift! Radiance PLR-3955

★ ARI Top Pick
★★★★ ARI Score 81 $1,838

Best for: The most complete feature set — heat, power everything, lithium backup

True-infinite positioning3-zone heat — standard400 lb capacityLithium battery backupPower headrest & lumbar

Product review

The most complete chair in Pride's line: true-infinite positioning, the line's only heat system (three pads: shoulders, lumbar, seat) as standard equipment, power headrest and lumbar, a memory remote with USB, and a lithium battery backup. It is also the most expensive Pride here and the heaviest, at 158 lbs in Medium — and there is no massage at any price.

  • Only Pride with heat — standard, not an add-on
  • Full VivaLift! package incl. chargers and cup holder
  • Four sizes, all rated 400 lbs
  • Priciest and heaviest Pride in the ranking
  • Heat but no massage

The company

US-based company — Pride Mobility Products, headquartered in Duryea, Pennsylvania, one of America's largest mobility manufacturers, with a national dealer network. Retailers report a lifetime steel lift frame with 7-year pro-rated warranty; Pride's own site links warranty PDFs that could not be text-verified in this research pass, which its accountability subscore reflects.

Pride VivaLift! Tranquil 2 PLR-935

★★★★ ARI Score 80 $1,563

Best for: Lay-flat infinite positioning, ~$275 under the Radiance

True-infinite lay flat400 lb capacityLithium backup standardPower headrest & lumbarMemory remote with USB

Product review

Nearly the Radiance's positioning and build for about $275 less: true-infinite lay-flat recline, power headrest and lumbar, memory toggle remote and a standard lithium backup, with 400 lb capacity across three sizes. The only real sacrifice is heat — no heat or massage option exists at any price on this model.

  • True-infinite lay-flat with full power package
  • 400 lb capacity, three sizes
  • Lithium backup is standard equipment
  • No heat or massage option
  • Heavy at 145 lbs (Medium)

The company

US-based company — Pride Mobility Products, headquartered in Duryea, Pennsylvania, one of America's largest mobility manufacturers, with a national dealer network. Golden Technologies Relaxer PR-766 with MaxiComfort

★★★½ ARI Score 78 $1,946

Best for: The original MaxiComfort chair — customizable waterfall back

MaxiComfort zero-gravityAutoDrive programmable controlAdjustable 3-pillow waterfall back375 lb capacityLifetime frame/mechanism warranty

Product review

The original MaxiComfort chair: zero-gravity and Trendelenburg positioning with an AutoDrive programmable hand control, a three-pillow waterfall back you can customize pillow by pillow, and — at 125 lbs — the lightest top-tier US-brand chair here. It needs about 26 inches of wall clearance (the most in this list), and heat/massage and the footrest extension are paid options.

  • Flagship MaxiComfort positioning and control
  • Customizable waterfall back; full chaise pad
  • Golden's lifetime frame/mechanism warranty
  • Needs ~26in wall clearance — most here
  • Priciest of the Golden/Pride group; options cost extra

The company

US-based company — Golden Technologies, founded 1985 in Pittston, Pennsylvania; family-owned, manufacturing in Old Forge, PA, with ~500 US employees. Warranty (verified on goldentech.com): lifetime on frame, lift frame and recline mechanism; electrical parts 3 years plus pro-rated years 4–7; mechanical labor 3 years, electrical labor 1 year. #5

Pride VivaLift! Urbana 2 PLR-965M

★★★½ ARI Score 76 $1,519

Best for: Flagship positioning in a compact footprint for smaller rooms

True-infinite lay flatCompact 33in overall width400 lb capacityLithium backup standardPower headrest & lumbar

Product review

The value entry into Pride's true-infinite line: the same core package as the Tranquil 2 — power headrest, power lumbar, memory remote with USB, lithium backup, full lay-flat — in a compact 33-inch-wide frame built for smaller rooms and condos. Only one documented size (Medium), no heat or massage, and still 145 lbs.

  • Cheapest route into Pride's true-infinite line
  • Compact footprint for small rooms
  • Full lay-flat despite the smaller frame
  • One documented size only
  • No heat/massage; two standard fabrics

La-Z-Boy Pinnacle Platinum Power Lift Recliner (1PL512) product photo
#6

La-Z-Boy Pinnacle Platinum Power Lift Recliner (1PL512)

★★★½ ARI Score 74 $1,642

Best for: Furniture-grade build in a small footprint — 11 inches from the wall

Independent back & legrestZero-gravity position350 lb capacitySits 11in from wallBattery backup included

Product review

The furniture-brand entry: genuine La-Z-Boy build and finish, independent back and legrest motion with a zero-gravity position, a legrest auto-stop safety feature, and a small footprint that sits 11 inches from the wall. The base configuration is feature-thin — no heat, massage, power headrest or USB — and La-Z-Boy's own warranty page gives this lift mechanism only 3 years of parts coverage.

  • Best-known furniture brand; quality finish
  • Compact — 11in from the wall
  • Legrest auto-stop safety feature
  • Narrow 20in seat; 350 lb capacity at a premium price
  • Lift mechanism warranty is 3-year parts, not lifetime

The company

La-Z-Boy is America's best-known recliner brand; retailers describe this model as handcrafted in North America. From la-z-boy.com's own parts-warranty page: for Luxury-Lift styles the mechanism and base carry 3 years parts / 1 year labor — the brand's 'lifetime' headline applies to general recliner frames, not this lift mechanism.

Mega Motion MM-3601 Trio Invigorate

★ Best Value
★★★ ARI Score 72 $999

Best for: Heat and massage included under $1,000, with a 22-inch seat

Heat + massage — standard22in seat — widest US-brand seat110 lbs — lightest powered chairUSB chargingBattery backup (9V)

Product review

Unbeatable feature-per-dollar among US-supported brands: heat and three-pattern massage included at $999 where the La-Z-Boy at $1,642 includes neither, the widest seat of the US-brand group (22in), and the lightest powered chair in the ranking (110 lbs). The mechanism is the trade: single-motor 3-position, no independent back/footrest control, no lay-flat, and the group's lowest capacity at 325 lbs.

  • Heat and massage included at $999
  • Widest US-brand seat; lightest chair here
  • Steel mechanism wear-tested to 15,000 cycles (manufacturer)
  • Single-motor 3-position — no independent control
  • Lowest US-brand capacity (325 lbs); imported build

The company

US-based company — Mega Motion, LLC, headquartered in Pontotoc, Mississippi, with four US warehouses; chairs are imported builds. Warranty sources conflict (retailer: 1-year in-home parts & labor + limited lifetime mechanism/frame; the current product insert: lifetime steel mechanism, 2-year limited on motor/controls) — verify against the insert packed with the chair.

#8

Irene House 9298 (9188E) Large Lay-Flat Power Lift Chair

★★★ ARI Score 69 $1,099

Best for: Dual-motor 180° lay-flat and a 27-inch seat from a value brand

Dual motor — true 180° lay flat27in seat — widest in the ranking400 lb capacityMassage + lumbar heatPublished multi-tier warranty

Product review

The most capable recline hardware among the value brands: true dual-motor 180° lay-flat positioning, a reinforced frame rated 400 lbs, and the widest seat in this ranking (27in) — matching chairs twice its price. Irene House also has the strongest infrastructure of the Amazon-native brands: its own US store, a published multi-tier warranty, and a US phone line. Model naming is confusingly overlapped, and massage is limited to four back points.

  • Dual-motor lay-flat at $1,099 brand-direct
  • Widest seat here; 400 lb capacity
  • Real US store, address and support line
  • Confusing overlapping model names
  • Massage is 4 points only; battery backup unverified

The company

Irene House runs its own US store from Cherry Hill, New Jersey (1911 Kresson Rd), with California and New Jersey warehouses and a US support team (800-622-6287); chairs are imported. Published warranty: electronics 2 years, cover 3 years, mechanism 3 years, frame 3 years.

8 massage nodes + lumbar heatUSB + Type-C, cup holders2-year stated warrantyTool-free ~20-min assemblyCapacity listed as both 320 & 350 lb

Product review

A solid feature set — 8-point massage, lumbar heat, USB and Type-C charging, cup holders, tool-free assembly — and the best stated warranty of the import brands (2 years covering mechanism, electricals, upholstery and frame). It is undermined by its own listing, which states the capacity as both 350 and 320 lbs and the seat width two different ways, and by a basic single-motor 3-position mechanism (140° max, no independent control).

  • Best stated warranty among import brands (2 years)
  • TÜV-certified actuator claimed; OEKO-TEX fabric
  • Ships in 3 boxes for narrow doorways
  • Listing contradicts itself on capacity and seat width
  • Single-motor 3-position; 140° max recline

The company

MCombo sells via Amazon and its own store; its manuals name a US entity (Newacme LLC, Commerce, California) with a US support line (1-323-597-1109). Parent-company domicile could not be verified.

CANMOV Large Power Lift Recliner with Massage & Heat product photo

CANMOV Large Power Lift Recliner with Massage & Heat

★★½ ARI Score 59 $379.99

Best for: The cheapest full lift chair with heat and massage — with eyes open

Only $3808 massage points + lumbar heat350 lb capacity claimed4.4★ across 451 Amazon ratingsTool-free assembly

Product review

Remarkable value on paper: a big-and-tall lift chair with 8-point massage, lumbar heat, USB and concealed cup holders for $379.99, rated 4.4 stars across 451 Amazon ratings. The 'infinite position' claim is a single motor (back and footrest move together), the warranty is just 1 year — half or less of every other brand here — and the company behind it is nearly anonymous: no brand domain, support under a different company's name.

  • Lowest verified price in the ranking, features included
  • Built for big-and-tall users (21in seat, extended back)
  • Free exchange for damaged/missing parts
  • 1-year warranty — the shortest here
  • Near-anonymous company; chair weight not even published

The company

CANMOV's footprint could not be verified: no company address on its listing or manual, support email under a different name (Zoy Living), storefront on a Shopify subdomain. Warranty: 1-year guarantee per listing and manual.

The verdict

Golden's PR-505 MaxiComforter is the chair to buy if you can get one: zero-gravity infinite positioning, a lifetime frame/mechanism warranty and the category's best owner evidence at $1,099 — but it is a superseded model in limited stock, and its PR-535 successor is the safer long-term bet. Pride's VivaLift! line is the feature benchmark (the Radiance adds real heat), and at the budget end the Mega Motion MM-3601 packs heat and massage under $1,000 with US support behind it.

Questions, answered

What is the difference between 3-position and infinite-position lift chairs?

A 3-position chair uses one motor: backrest and footrest move together through lift, TV and full-recline stops. An infinite-position (dual-motor) chair moves them independently and can lay flat or reach zero-gravity and Trendelenburg positions — better for sleeping and circulation, at a higher price.

How much wall clearance does a lift chair need?

Standard recliners need 12–26 inches behind them (the PR-766 here needs ~26). Wall-hugger designs need as little as 4–6 inches, and compact models like the Urbana 2 and La-Z-Boy Pinnacle are built for smaller rooms. Measure before ordering; returns on 150 lb chairs are painful.

Is the battery backup a real feature or a gimmick?

Real. In a power outage it returns the chair to seated or lift position so the user is never trapped reclined. Every chair in this ranking has some form of backup — Pride's lithium systems are the most capable; simple 9V systems give a few cycles.
