Top 10 Desk Lamps & Light Bars — Top 10

Desk lighting has split into two camps that shoppers constantly cross-shop: monitor light bars, which clamp to the top of a screen and throw glare-free light down at the desk, and classic task lamps, which light paper, crafts, and everything a screen bar cannot reach. This list ranks both together on the same ARI Score, because most home-office buyers are really choosing between the two. Every brightness and color figure below is published by the maker, every price is the maker's own store price for the standard model, and every product had a live, purchasable source when we checked.

BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2

ARI Score 91 $199

Best for: Screen workers who want front desk light and ambient backlight in one bar

>1,000 lux center illuminance2700K–6500K steplessCRI Ra ≥95 · Rf ≥96 (front)Tri-zone backlight + wireless dial controllerPresence sensor + auto-dimming

Product review

The Halo 2 is the most complete monitor light bar BenQ makes: a glare-free front light for the desk, a tri-zone backlight that washes the wall behind the screen to cut contrast, and a wireless dial controller with a numeric display so you can see exactly where brightness and color temperature are set. It carries an iF Design Award 2025 and BenQ's full smart feature set — presence detection, auto-dimming, and a memory mode. Nothing else in this category combines all three lights-and-controls elements as well.

Color Options
Dark Grey
Pros
  • Front + tri-zone backlight balances screen-to-room contrast better than any rival
  • Wireless dial controller with numeric readout — the best controls on any light bar
  • Presence sensor, auto-dimming, and settings memory built in
  • Fits flat and 1000R–1800R curved monitors up to 6 cm thick
Cons
  • The most expensive light bar on this list at $199
  • Wireless controller needs periodic USB-C recharging and reviewers find it slow to wake
  • Needs a 5V/3A USB-C power source, more than some monitor USB ports supply

The company

BenQ Corporation is a Taiwanese technology company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Taipei; its US arm, BenQ America, runs the buy.benq.com store. BenQ created the monitor light-bar category with the first ScreenBar in 2017, publishes full specifications for its lighting line, and staffs a US consumer support line.

BenQ ScreenBar Pro

ARI Score 90 $139

Best for: Most screen workers — near-flagship light without the backlight premium

>1,000 lux center illuminance2700K–6500K · 16 brightness levelsCRI Ra ≥95 · Rf ≥96Ultrasonic presence sensorAuto-dimming to the 500 lux standard

Product review

The ScreenBar Pro is the sweet spot of BenQ's range: the same >1,000 lux center illuminance and 85 x 50 cm coverage as the Halo 2, the same Ra ≥95 full-spectrum LEDs, and an ultrasonic presence sensor that turns the light on when you sit down and off five minutes after you leave. You give up the backlight and the wireless dial, and save $60. For a single-monitor desk, this is the light bar most people should buy.

Color Options
BlackSilver
Pros
  • Same front-light output and coverage as the Halo 2 for $60 less
  • Presence sensor and real-time auto-dimming work hands-free
  • Widest monitor fit in the class: 0.43–6.5 cm, 1000R–1800R curved
  • Full-spectrum LEDs with published CRI Ra ≥95 and Rf ≥96
Cons
  • No backlight, so dark-room screen contrast is handled less completely than the Halo 2
  • Touch controls on the bar itself are less precise than the Halo 2's dial
  • Non-detachable USB-C cable

The company

BenQ Corporation is a Taiwanese technology company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Taipei; its US arm, BenQ America, runs the buy.benq.com store. BenQ WiT e-Reading Desk Lamp

ARI Score 88 $249

Best for: Reading and paper work across a wide desk, with screen-friendly light

1,600 lux max at 17.7 in2700K–5700KCRI >95Auto-dimming · screen + paper smart modes35.4-in ultrawide coverage

Product review

The WiT is BenQ's answer for people whose work is not only on a screen: its curved 'Smile Curve' head throws an oval of light 35.4 inches wide — about 150% wider than a typical desk lamp — at up to 1,600 lux, with CRI above 95. A touch ring switches on auto-dimming, and its two smart modes balance light differently for screens (brighter at the sides, darker in the middle) and for paper. This is the current BenQ e-Reading desk lamp; the smaller Genie has been discontinued by retailers and was out of stock at BenQ when we checked.

Color Options
Matte SilverMatte Gold
Pros
  • Widest, brightest task coverage on this list: 1,600 lux across a 35.4-in span
  • CRI >95 with separate screen and paper smart modes
  • Swing arm and ball-joint head aim light anywhere on the desk
  • Auto-dimming ambient sensor built in
Cons
  • Premium $249 price, and the clamp and floor-stand accessories cost extra
  • Large weighted base takes real desk space
  • AC-powered only — no USB convenience

The company

BenQ Corporation is a Taiwanese technology company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Taipei; its US arm, BenQ America, runs the buy.benq.com store, where the WiT is sold at $249. BenQ ScreenBar

ARI Score 86 $109

Best for: The proven original light bar, for buyers who skip the newest sensors

>900 lux center illuminance2700K–6500KCRI >95Auto-dimmingUSB-A powered

Product review

The original ScreenBar — the 2017 product that invented this category — is still on sale, and still good: over 900 lux at center, CRI above 95, auto-dimming, and the same asymmetric optics that keep light off the screen. The newer Pro adds a presence sensor, wider coverage, and a wider-fit clamp, but if your monitor is a standard flat panel, the original covers the fundamentals for $30 less.

Color Options
Black
Pros
  • The category original, with a long owner track record
  • CRI >95 and auto-dimming at the lowest BenQ price
  • Simple touch controls, USB-A power from almost any port
Cons
  • Narrower coverage (23.6 x 11.8 in at 500 lux) than the Pro models
  • Clamp fits a narrower range of monitors and not strongly curved screens
  • No presence sensor — it stays on until you switch it off

The company

BenQ Corporation is a Taiwanese technology company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Taipei; its US arm, BenQ America, runs the buy.benq.com store. BenQ created the monitor light-bar category with this product in 2017, publishes full specifications for its lighting line, and staffs a US consumer support line.

Koncept Z-Bar Solo Gen 4 LED Desk Lamp

ARI Score 85 $360

Best for: Design-led desks that want a sculptural, buy-it-for-decades task lamp

888 lumensCRI 90+3500K or 5000K (chosen at order)Continuous touchstrip dimming5-year warranty

Product review

The Z-Bar Solo Gen 4 is the design world's desk lamp: a slim two-arm silhouette from a family that Koncept's own spec sheet credits with the Red Dot Design Award 2021 and iF Design Award 2021, with a head that spins, sweeps, and rotates to any angle and folds flat when you are done. Output is a strong 888 lumens at CRI 90+, dimmed by a touchstrip, and it is backed by a 5-year warranty — the longest on this list. You pay for the design and the build, not for smart features.

Color Options
Matte BlackSilverMatte White
Pros
  • Red Dot 2021 and iF 2021 award-winning Gen 4 design family
  • 888 lumens at CRI 90+ with a 60,000-hour L90 LED rating
  • 5-year warranty and a US company with a published address, phone, and email
  • Head articulates in every direction and folds completely flat
Cons
  • Standard model has a fixed color temperature (3500K or 5000K at order); the tunable Pro version costs more
  • Sold through authorized dealers rather than a Koncept checkout, so prices vary by dealer
  • Premium price buys design and longevity, not sensors or smart features

The company

Koncept Inc. is a US lighting company based at 429 E. Huntington Drive in Monrovia, California, led by designers Peter, Kenneth, and Edmund Ng. The Z-Bar line is its flagship; Koncept publishes full spec sheets — including the support phone and email used here — and sells through authorized US lighting dealers.

Lume Cube Edge Light 2.0

ARI Score 84 $150

Best for: Video calls and creators who need to light their face as well as their desk

700 lumens2700K–7500KCRI 95+Edge-lit soft panel · 270° rotating headUSB-A + USB-C charging ports

Product review

The Edge Light 2.0 is a desk lamp designed from the camera's point of view: a round, edge-lit panel on a five-pivot clamp arm that produces soft, flattering, flicker-free light for video calls, and rotates 270° to work as a task light when the meeting ends. Its 2700K–7500K range is the widest on this list, CRI is 95+, and the base unit doubles as a charger with USB-A and USB-C ports. As a pure desk light it is outgunned by the BenQ bars; as a two-in-one for people on camera all day, it has no real rival here.

Color Options
BlackWhite
Pros
  • Soft edge-lit panel flatters faces on video calls like no light bar can
  • Widest color range here: 2700K–7500K, with CRI 95+
  • Five pivot points and a 270° rotating head aim it anywhere
  • Built-in USB-A and USB-C charging ports
Cons
  • 700 lumens is modest for lighting a large desk or detailed bench work
  • Optimized for faces first — task-light coverage is narrower than a swing-arm lamp
  • 1-year warranty is short for the price

The company

Lume Cube is a US lighting brand built around creator and video-call lighting, selling direct through lumecube.com, where the Edge Light 2.0 is its best-selling desk product. The company sells and supports its line through its own store and major US photo retailers.

Neatfi XL 2,200 Lumens LED Desk Lamp (CCT, 23-Inch)

ARI Score 82 $130

Best for: Crafts, nails, and bench work that need maximum raw brightness over a wide area

2,200 lumens (maker-rated)3000K–6000K · 3 light modesCRI 804 brightness levels23-in wide head · clamp mount · 32-in arm

Product review

The Neatfi XL is the floodlight of this list: 2,200 lumens from 182 LEDs under a 23-inch head, on a triple-joint 32-inch arm that clamps to desks up to 2.5 inches thick. The CCT version adjusts from 3000K to 6000K in three modes with four brightness levels, and Neatfi backs it with a 3-year warranty. The trade-off is color quality — CRI is 80, well behind the BenQ and OttLite lamps — so it suits crafts, nail stations, and workshops better than color-critical work.

Color Options
White
Pros
  • Highest total output on this list by a wide margin: 2,200 lumens
  • Extra-wide 23-in head and 32-in reach cover big work surfaces evenly
  • 3-year warranty, unusual at this price
  • Clamp mount keeps the whole desk surface free
Cons
  • CRI 80 is the lowest here — colors are noticeably less accurate than CRI 90+ rivals
  • Maker's own store showed the 23-in line out of stock at our check; Amazon is the reliable source
  • Big head and arm dominate a small desk

The company

Neatfi is a direct-to-consumer lighting brand that sells through neatfi.com and Amazon, shipping from US warehouses with free delivery. It publishes a 3-year warranty on its lamps and email support, but no headquarters address or support phone — accountability runs through its store and Amazon storefront.

Quntis ScreenLinear Pro Monitor Light Bar (40 cm) product photo

Quntis ScreenLinear Pro Monitor Light Bar (40 cm)

ARI Score 79 $43

Best for: Budget screen lighting with real auto-dimming

≥700 lux (maker-rated)3000K–6500K steplessCRI 95 (maker-rated)Auto-dimming sensor40,000-hour rated LEDs

Product review

The ScreenLinear Pro is the budget light bar that keeps the features that matter: an asymmetric 45° beam that stays off the screen, an auto-dimming sensor, stepless brightness and 3000K–6500K color adjustment, and maker-rated CRI 95 and ≥700 lux — for roughly a third of the BenQ ScreenBar's price. It is one of Amazon's best-selling monitor lights for a reason. What you give up is institutional depth: Quntis publishes no headquarters or phone number, and its own product page is inconsistent about the CRI figure (we cite its text specification of 95).

Color Options
Black
Pros
  • Auto-dimming and high-CRI light at a budget price
  • Asymmetric optics keep light off the screen, like bars costing 3x more
  • USB-powered from a computer, charger, or power bank
  • 18-month warranty when registered on quntis.com
Cons
  • Does not fit curved monitors or laptops (maker's own limitation)
  • Maker publishes no HQ address or support phone; support is web-only
  • Maker's page gives conflicting CRI figures (95 in text, Ra98/Ra90 in graphics)

The company

Quntis is an online-first lighting brand that sells through quntis.com and Amazon, where its ScreenLinear bars are category best-sellers. The company publishes US shipping times (5–7 days) and a 1-year warranty extendable to 18 months on registration, but no headquarters address or phone line.

OttLite Revive LED Desk Lamp (Wellness Series)

ARI Score 78 $150

Best for: Reading and crafts where natural-daylight color quality matters more than raw output

400 lumens maxCRI 95+ ClearSun LED3 brightness settingsUSB charging port (5V/2.1A)Adjusts 6.5–15.5 in high

Product review

The Revive is the traditionalist's pick: an all-metal lamp with three adjustment knobs and a rounded diffuser, built around OttLite's ClearSun LED, which the company says mimics the sun's spectral output and cuts eyestrain by up to 51%, with CRI of 95+. Output is a modest 400 lumens and there is no color-temperature adjustment — the spectrum is fixed by design. What you get instead is a 35-year-old US company, published phone and email support, and light quality aimed at readers and crafters rather than screen workers.

Color Options
WhiteTurquoise
Pros
  • CRI 95+ ClearSun spectrum designed to mimic natural daylight
  • US company since 1989 with published phone and email support
  • All-metal construction with three-knob positioning and a USB charging port
  • LEDs rated to 40,000 hours
Cons
  • 400 lumens is the dimmest here — a reading light, not a whole-desk light
  • No adjustable color temperature, and OttLite publishes no CCT figure for it
  • Expensive for its output: you are paying for spectrum quality, not brightness

The company

OttLite Technologies was founded in 1989 by photobiologist Dr. John Nash Ott and is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Its ClearSun LED line is built around natural-daylight spectrum lighting for reading and crafts, and the company publishes US customer-service phone and email contacts.

TORCHSTAR Metal Desk Lamp Aesthetic product photo
#10

TORCHSTAR Metal Desk Lamp Aesthetic

ARI Score 74 $59

Best for: A simple, durable metal lamp where you choose your own bulb

E26 socket — bulb not includedMetal swing-arm designUL-listed cord2-year warrantyHeavy weighted base

Product review

TORCHSTAR's metal desk lamp is the analog option: a black-and-gold metal lamp with a swing arm, an adjustable head, a heavy base, and an ordinary E26 socket — your bulb decides the brightness, color, and quality. That honesty cuts both ways: TORCHSTAR publishes no lumens, CRI, or color-temperature figures for this lamp at all, because there is no built-in LED to measure. Buy it for the metal build, the UL-listed cord, the 2-year warranty, and a US company with a published phone line — not for lighting technology.

Color Options
Black and Gold
Pros
  • Solid metal construction with a heavy, stable base
  • Any E26 bulb works, so brightness and color are your choice — and replaceable forever
  • UL-listed cord and a 2-year warranty from a California-based company
  • No electronics to fail: the simplest lamp on this list
Cons
  • Bulb not included — the $58.99 price is not the working price
  • Maker publishes no lumens, CRI, or color-temperature data for this lamp
  • Non-dimmable rocker control; dimming depends entirely on your bulb

The company

TORCHSTAR is a California-based lighting brand with a fulfillment center in Eastvale, California, selling direct through torchstar.us. It publishes a US support phone line and backs this lamp with a 2-year warranty.

The verdict

Buy a light bar if your work lives on a screen: the BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 is the most complete monitor light we have scored, and the ScreenBar Pro delivers most of its light for $60 less. Buy a task lamp if you read, draw, sew, or work with physical materials: the BenQ WiT covers a whole desk in high-CRI light, the Koncept Z-Bar Solo Gen 4 is the design-led premium pick, and the Neatfi XL is the brute-force brightness value. On a budget, the Quntis ScreenLinear Pro gets you real auto-dimming and high-CRI light for about $43.

Questions, answered

Should I buy a monitor light bar or a desk lamp?

Buy a light bar if nearly all of your work is on a screen: it lights the desk without reflecting off the display and takes up no desk space. Buy a task lamp if you read on paper, draw, sew, do bench work, or need light away from the monitor — a bar cannot aim sideways, and a good swing-arm lamp covers far more area. Many desks end up with one of each.

How bright does a desk lamp need to be?

For screen work, lighting standards point to about 500 lux on the desk surface; BenQ's bars deliver over 1,000 lux at center and hold 500 lux across an 85 x 50 cm area. For detailed physical work — crafts, electronics, nail work — total output matters more, which is why the 2,200-lumen Neatfi XL exists. More is not always better: glare-free, dimmable light you can tune down beats a single blinding setting.

What is CRI, and does it matter for a desk lamp?

CRI (Color Rendering Index) measures how accurately a light shows colors compared with daylight, on a scale to 100. For ordinary typing and reading, CRI 80 is workable; for photo editing, art, crafts, or makeup, look for CRI 90 or higher. The top BenQ models publish CRI Ra 95 or better, while the budget Neatfi XL publishes CRI 80 — a real trade-off we scored, not a typo.

Will a monitor light bar fit a curved or ultrawide monitor?

Check the clamp range before you buy. The BenQ ScreenBar Pro and Halo 2 fit monitors 0.43–6.5 cm thick and curves from 1000R to 1800R, which covers most curved and ultrawide displays. The budget Quntis ScreenLinear Pro (40 cm Focus model) explicitly does not fit curved monitors or laptops — its maker says so — so curved-screen owners should step up to the BenQ bars.
