Top 10 Monitor Arms — Top 10

A monitor arm is the cheapest ergonomic upgrade in the home office: it puts the screen at eye level, reclaims the desk under it, and lets you pull the display closer or push it away as you work. We ranked the ten best single-monitor arms you can buy in the US today — from Ergotron's benchmark LX to credible gas-spring arms under $50 — on motion quality and capacity, company accountability, owner satisfaction and value. Every arm here is priced in its standard single-monitor configuration from the maker's own store or list price.

Ergotron LX Desk Monitor Arm

ARI Score 91 $325

Best for: The default premium single arm for monitors up to 34 inches

7–25 lb capacityScreens up to 34"VESA 75×75 / 100×10013" lift range10-year warranty

Product review

The LX is the arm this category is measured against: Ergotron's patented Constant Force lift moves a 7–25 lb monitor through 13 inches of height adjustment with fingertip effort and holds it exactly where you leave it. The polished aluminum arm extends 25 inches, folds back flat over its base, and is rated through Ergotron's 10,000-cycle motion test. A 10-year warranty backs the whole mechanism.

Color Options
Polished AluminumMatte BlackWhite
Pros
  • Constant Force lift is smooth and holds position without drift
  • 10,000-cycle tested with a 10-year warranty
  • Full 360° pan and rotation, 75° tilt
  • Clamp and grommet mounts both included
Cons
  • Most expensive mainstream single arm here
  • Street prices vary widely by color and seller
  • Minimum 7 lb load excludes the lightest portable monitors

The company

Ergotron was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, where it designs ergonomic mounting and workspace products sold worldwide. Its arms are standard issue in US hospitals, offices and schools, supported by a large authorized dealer network and US-based customer service.

#2ARI Top Pick \u2014 American Ranking Institute award badge

Herman Miller Flo Monitor Arm

ARI Score 89 $305

Best for: Design-led desks with lighter monitors up to 15.4 lb

4.4–15.4 lb capacityScreens up to 34"VESA 75 / 10012-year warranty

Product review

Designed by Colebrook Bosson Saunders, the current Flo is the lightest-touch arm in this list: a fingertip-adjustable spring arm for monitors from 4.4 to 15.4 lb, with 483mm of vertical reach and a slim profile that nearly disappears behind the screen. Its tilt range (+30°/−25°) and portrait rotation suit single-screen desks where looks matter as much as motion. A 12-year Herman Miller warranty is the longest coverage here after Humanscale.

Color Options
BlackWhiteSilver
Pros
  • Featherlight fingertip adjustment across its range
  • 12-year warranty from Herman Miller
  • Minimal, design-award-winning profile
  • Split clamp and top-mount clamp options
Cons
  • 15.4 lb ceiling excludes most 32-inch-plus and ultrawide monitors
  • Premium price for a light-duty arm
  • Some plastic in the clamp; tension can need fine-tuning near max load

The company

Herman Miller, founded in 1905 and headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan, is one of America's defining furniture makers and now anchors MillerKnoll. Flo comes from its Colebrook Bosson Saunders accessories studio in London, and the arm is sold through Herman Miller stores and authorized US dealers with full factory warranty support.

Ergotron HX Desk Monitor Arm product photo
#3

Ergotron HX Desk Monitor Arm

ARI Score 88 $460

Best for: Heavy and ultrawide monitors up to 42 lb

20–42 lb capacityScreens up to 42"VESA up to 200×20010-year warranty

Product review

The HX is Ergotron's heavy lifter: a Constant Force arm rated for 20–42 lb displays up to 42 inches, with an optional HD pivot that handles deep-curved 49-inch ultrawides such as the Samsung Odyssey G9. It keeps the LX formula — 10,000-cycle testing, integrated cable management, clamp and grommet mounts — at roughly double the capacity. If your monitor is too heavy for everything else on this list, this is the arm that fits.

Color Options
Polished AluminumMatte BlackWhite
Pros
  • Highest capacity of any single arm here (42 lb)
  • HD pivot option suits 1000R curved ultrawides
  • Same 10-year warranty and cycle testing as the LX
  • VESA support up to 200×200
Cons
  • Highest price in the category
  • 20 lb minimum load — too strong for light monitors
  • Large post and arm footprint on the desk

The company

Ergotron was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, where it designs ergonomic mounting and workspace products sold worldwide. Its arms are standard issue in US hospitals, offices and schools, supported by a large authorized dealer network and US-based customer service.

Product review

The M2.1 pairs Humanscale's patented weight-compensating spring with Smart Stop joints that can be locked at set rotation points so the screen never overhangs the desk edge. It is a light-duty arm — 5 to 15 lb — built mostly from recycled aluminum, with quick-release joints that snap together without loose parts. Its 15-year, 24/7-use warranty is the longest in this ranking.

4.9–22 lb capacityScreens 19–38"VESA 100×100 only3-year warranty

Product review

Dell's MSA20 is built around one convenience: Dell UltraSharp and P-Series monitors snap onto its quick-release plate with no tools, and a counterbalance indicator lets you dial in repeatable tension settings. It handles 4.9–22 lb monitors from 19 to 38 inches, with a switch that limits swivel to 180° in tight cubicles or opens it to 360°. Non-Dell VESA 100×100 monitors work via the included adapter plate.

  • Tool-free quick release for Dell monitors
  • Counterbalance indicator for repeatable setup
  • Swivel-stop switch for tight workstations
  • Backed by Dell's US support and 3-year warranty
Cons
  • Native mount is VESA 100×100 only — no 75×75 without the plate
  • 3-year warranty trails Ergotron and Herman Miller
  • Best experience is reserved for Dell displays

The company

Dell Technologies, founded in 1984 and headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, is one of the largest US computer makers, selling direct and through every major US retailer and reseller. The MSA20 remains a current Dell accessories product (order code 482-BBDJ) covered by Dell's standard hardware support.

Amazon Basics Single Monitor Arm — Lift Engine product photo

Amazon Basics Single Monitor Arm — Lift Engine

ARI Score 82 $100

Best for: Ergotron-style motion on an Amazon budget

5–25 lb capacityScreens up to 32"VESA 75×75 / 100×1001-year warranty

Product review

Amazon's premium aluminum single arm uses a lift-engine design with the same headline numbers as the class leaders — 5–25 lb capacity, screens up to 32 inches, 70° back / 5° forward tilt and 360° rotation — at roughly a third of the Ergotron LX's list price. The aluminum arm extends and retracts smoothly and the clamp fits desks 0.4 to 2.4 inches thick. The trade is accountability: coverage is a 1-year Amazon Basics warranty instead of a decade.

Color Options
BlackSilver
Pros
  • Class-leading capacity range for the price
  • Smooth lift-engine motion, aluminum build
  • Ships and returns through Amazon
  • Frequently discounted below list
Cons
  • 1-year warranty is the shortest here
  • Support is Amazon's generic channel, not a specialist team
  • No published cycle-life testing

The company

Amazon Basics is Amazon's private-label line, sold exclusively through Amazon's US store with Amazon handling fulfillment, returns and warranty claims. The line has offered monitor arms since 2014 and this aluminum lift-engine model is its premium single-arm offering.

It includes both C-clamp and grommet mounts, integrated cable management, and portrait rotation. VIVO backs it with a 3-year warranty — unusually long at this price.

Up to 26.5 lb capacityScreens up to 40"VESA 75×75 / 100×100Cast aluminum arm

Product review

The EGSS2 is ErGear's ultrawide play: an aerospace-grade cast-aluminum gas-spring arm rated to 26.5 lb and screens up to 40 inches, with about 21 inches of height and 25.6 inches of extension — reach figures most budget arms don't match. Tilt runs ±45°, swivel 180° and rotation a full 360°. It undercuts the Ergotron HX by hundreds while covering much of the same ultrawide territory.

Color Options

  • Cast aluminum construction
  • Published support email
Cons

MOUNTUP Single Monitor Arm (MU0004) product photo
#10The Buck Blazer \u2014 lowest price in this category, American Ranking Institute award badge

MOUNTUP Single Monitor Arm (MU0004)

ARI Score 74 $40

Best for: The cheapest credible gas-spring arm for a standard monitor

4.4–17.6 lb capacityScreens up to 32"VESA 75×75 / 100×1003-year support

Product review

The MU0004 is the entry point of this category: a gas-spring arm for 4.4–17.6 lb monitors up to 32 inches, with +90°/−45° tilt, 180° swivel, 360° rotation and about 19.3 inches of extension. Both C-clamp and grommet mounts are in the box, along with basic cable management. It gives up capacity, finish and support depth to everything above it — and costs less than half of the next arm up.

Color Options
BlackWhite
Pros
  • Lowest price of any arm ranked here
  • Full-motion range matches pricier arms on paper
  • Clamp and grommet mounts included
  • Black and white finishes
Cons
  • 17.6 lb ceiling excludes heavier 32-inch monitors
  • Not rated for strongly curved (1000R–1800R) screens
  • Thinnest support and warranty infrastructure here

The company

MOUNTUP is an Amazon-native mounting brand selling monitor arms and TV mounts in the US almost entirely through its Amazon storefront. It markets 3-year support on the MU0004 line but publishes no US phone or email support channel of its own, which caps its accountability score.

The verdict

Buy the Ergotron LX if your monitor weighs 7–25 lb and you want the arm most likely to outlast the desk under it; its Constant Force motion and 10-year warranty still set the standard. Herman Miller's Flo is the prettier, lighter-touch alternative for lighter screens, and the Ergotron HX is the only real choice for heavy or deep-curved ultrawides. On a budget, VIVO's STAND-V001Q and HUANUO's HNSS7 deliver honest gas-spring motion with real warranties — the MOUNTUP MU0004 is the floor, fine for a light monitor and nothing more.

Questions, answered

What matters more — the weight rating or the screen-size rating?

Weight. Screen-size figures are approximations based on typical monitor weights; an arm fails by sagging under weight, not by diagonal inches. Weigh your monitor without its stand (or check the maker's spec) and stay inside the arm's published per-arm range, including the minimum — an arm sprung for 20 lb will not hold a 5 lb monitor down.

Gas spring or mechanical spring — which is better?

Both work. Gas (pneumatic) springs, used by VIVO, HUANUO, ErGear and MOUNTUP, are smooth and cheap but can lose pressure over years. Mechanical systems — Ergotron's Constant Force, Herman Miller's and Humanscale's weight-compensating springs — cost more, are typically cycle-tested, and carry the longest warranties in this ranking (10–15 years).

Will my monitor fit? Check the VESA pattern.

Most monitors use VESA 75×75mm or 100×100mm holes on the back. Every arm here covers both except Dell's MSA20, which is natively 100×100 and ships an adapter plate. Curved ultrawides may need a heavy-duty pivot — see the Ergotron HX — and some monitors hide their VESA holes under a stand bracket that must be removed first.

Clamp or grommet mount — which should I use?

The edge clamp is the default: it fits most desks 0.4–2.4 inches thick, installs in minutes and leaves no hole. The grommet mount, included with most arms here, bolts through a desk's cable hole or a drilled hole and is the sturdier choice for thick, soft or glass desktops — or desks whose back edge is blocked.

Prices shown are for the single-monitor version of each arm. Prices are typical US street prices observed during research and change often — check the retailer for the current price.
