Best Soundbars — Top 10

A soundbar's channel count is now a marketing number first and a description second. An 11.1.4 system with separate rear speakers and a subwoofer in the box, a single bar that renders a claimed 9.1.4 mix from fourteen drivers in one cabinet, and a $250 bar that virtualizes its height channels are three different products wearing similar badges. This ranking separates them on what is physically in the room: real channel configuration and dialogue clarity first, then measured owner satisfaction at scale, value at regular list price, and how each company stands behind the product — warranty length, published support channels and parts.

We screened twenty current US models and ranked ten. Full AV-receiver speaker systems are excluded by design, as are discontinued flagships that remain on sale as outgoing stock; soundbar systems that bundle a subwoofer or rear speakers in the same SKU are in scope and are priced exactly as sold. Every price below is the regular list price from the maker's own store or a major US retailer, checked this session — and because this category is promoted constantly, the dossier flags every large sale price we observed alongside the list price used for scoring.

Samsung HW-Q990H Q-Series Soundbar (11.1.4)
The 2026 successor appearing at Best Buy ($1,697.99, 15 reviews at screening). Too new to score on owner evidence, and the Q990F's verified record and deeper rating base keep the flagship slot this cycle; expect the H to displace it once its record matures.
Samsung$1,69874
Sonos Beam Ultra
Launched in late 2026 between the Beam (Gen 2) and Arc Ultra, with physical height drivers. Cut on evidence, not promise: long-term owner data is still thin, and sources disagreed on its US price ($699 vs $799 observed), which the dossier flags.
Sonos$79974
Samsung HW-Q930F Q-Series Soundbar (9.1.4)
A real 9.1.4 system with rears at $999.99 (Best Buy), but it is dominated from both sides: the Q800F matches its front stage for similar money and the Q990F adds channels above it, frequently at discounted prices near the Q930F's list.
Samsung$1,00073
Samsung HW-Q990D Q-Series Soundbar (11.1.4)
The 2024 flagship, superseded by the Q990F and showing out-of-stock at Samsung.com at screening. Still excellent and often discounted near $1,000, but a ranking of current models cannot lead with the outgoing generation.
Samsung$2,00073
Klipsch Flexus Core 300
A 5.1.2 single bar with Onkyo-built electronics (Crutchfield list $1,199.99, sale $899.99 observed). Strong fundamentals, but as a bar alone it competes with the Arc Ultra and AMBEO Plus, which pair similar claims with deeper owner bases and calibration systems.
Klipsch$1,20072
Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max
The biggest single bar in the pool and still a reference for virtualized sound, but $2,999.95 for one box with no sub included, a 2019-era platform, and out-of-stock status at Crutchfield at screening keep it below its own smaller sibling.
Sennheiser$3,00072
Bose Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar
Bose's newer $1,099 bar (Bose.com comparison pages) overlaps the Smart Ultra's feature set almost exactly. Cut because its US owner record is still thin at screening and nothing in its published specs separates it from the Smart Ultra ranked above it.
Bose$1,09971
Polk Audio MagniFi Max AX
A capable 5.1.2 bar-and-sub system (Target regular price $799, sale $649 observed) with Polk's SDA processing, but its owner evidence and dialogue record trail the Q800F, which holds the mid-range Samsung slot.
Polk Audio$79970
Bose Smart Soundbar
The compact Bose bar (formerly the Smart Soundbar 600 line; $549 at Bose.com) offers Atmos and A.I. Dialogue Mode in a 27-inch cabinet, but no ADAPTiQ and a smaller stage than the Beam (Gen 2), which owns the compact slot.
Bose$54969
LG S90TR Soundbar (7.1.3)
The S95TR's smaller sibling with rears (NFM list $1,199.99; lower prices observed at Best Buy). Strictly dominated by the S95TR above it and by Samsung's Q930F at a similar street price.
LG$1,20068

Samsung HW-Q990F Q-Series Soundbar (11.1.4)

AmRank Score 91 $2,000

Best for: Buyers who want true surround and height channels in the box — separate wireless rears and a subwoofer, not virtualization — without an AV receiver.

11.1.4 ch · bar + sub + rearsTrue Dolby Atmos · DTS:XWireless sub + rear speakersQ-Symphony · SpaceFit Sound Pro2 HDMI 2.1 inputs · eARC

Product review

The Q990F is the only system in this ranking that delivers its headline channel count with physical speakers: an 11.1.4 layout with a wireless subwoofer and separate up-firing rear speakers included in the box, 23 drivers in total, and two HDMI 2.1 inputs alongside eARC. That physical separation is why its Atmos effects read as coming from behind and above rather than being suggested from the front — and why it outscores single bars that render similar channel counts virtually. Samsung's own page rates it 4.7 out of 5 across roughly 700 ratings. It ranks first on performance and completeness; its accountability is ordinary (a one-year warranty), and its list price is the highest here, so the win is about what is in the box, not about value per dollar.

The company

Samsung is the world's largest TV maker and runs US audio support through its published 1-800-SAMSUNG line and Samsung.com support pages. The Q990F carries a one-year parts-and-labor warranty — standard for the class, and shorter than the two-year cover Sennheiser offers below.

Pros
  • True 11.1.4 channels with physical rear speakers and subwoofer included
  • Two HDMI 2.1 inputs plus eARC — rare among flagship soundbar systems
  • SpaceFit Sound Pro room calibration and Q-Symphony for Samsung TV owners
Cons
  • Four boxes to place, power and keep charged or plugged in — the rears need outlets
  • List price is high; the model is discounted so often that paying full list is hard to justify
  • Best extra, Q-Symphony, only works with compatible Samsung TVs

Sonos Arc Ultra

AmRank Score 89 $1,099

Best for: Buyers who want the strongest single-bar performance and a multiroom system they can expand later with a Sonos sub and surrounds.

Single bar · no sub included9.1.4 rendered · 14 driversSound Motion wooferAI Speech Enhancement · 4 levelsHDMI eARC · Wi-Fi · Bluetooth

Product review

The Arc Ultra packs 14 drivers — nine tweeters (two up-firing), six midwoofers and Sonos's flat Sound Motion woofer — into a single bar, and renders a claimed 9.1.4 spatial mix from that one cabinet. Read that number honestly: the height drivers are real, but the surround and low-frequency channels are synthesized, not discrete. What is not synthesized is the dialogue work — a redesigned center array plus AI Speech Enhancement with four levels — and the platform around it: Trueplay tuning on iOS and Android, AirPlay 2, and TV Audio Swap to Sonos Ace headphones. Sonos's own store rates it 4.9 out of 5 across about 1,200 reviews. It is the best one-box answer here; Samsung beats it only because Samsung ships the rest of the system in the box.

The company

Sonos is a US audio company (Santa Barbara, California) that sells direct, publishes support through sonos.com and its support line, and backs the Arc Ultra with a one-year limited warranty in the US. Its software platform is the product's strength and its main dependency.

Pros
  • Strongest single-bar bass and scale here, from the Sound Motion woofer
  • Four-level AI Speech Enhancement for dialogue
  • Expands with Sonos Sub, Era surrounds and Ace headphone swap
Cons
  • The $1,099 buys the bar alone — a Sonos Sub and Era surrounds cost substantially more
  • The 9.1.4 experience is rendered from one bar; there are no discrete rear channels as sold
  • Full setup and tuning depend on the Sonos app and a Sonos account

Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar

AmRank Score 87 $999

Best for: Dialogue-first viewers who want a single, compact premium bar with room calibration and no separate subwoofer to place.

Single bar · no sub includedDolby Atmos · 2 up-firing drivers9 speakers · ADAPTiQ calibrationA.I. Dialogue ModeHDMI eARC · AirPlay 2 · Chromecast

Product review

Bose's flagship single bar uses nine speakers, including two upward-firing dipole drivers, and leans on processing — TrueSpace upmixing for non-Atmos content and an A.I. Dialogue Mode that balances voices against surround effects — rather than on extra boxes. ADAPTiQ calibration, run with the included headset, tunes the bar to the room. At Best Buy it holds 4.6 out of 5 across 824 reviews, with 89% of owners saying they would recommend it; the recurring complaints are connectivity and software updates, not sound. It ranks below the Arc Ultra on scale and bass, and above the rest of the single bars on dialogue clarity and calibration.

The company

Bose is a long-established US audio maker (Framingham, Massachusetts) that sells the Smart Ultra direct and through major retailers, publishes support through bose.com, and offers paid BoseCare extended plans at checkout. No support email or phone is published on the product page itself, so both fields are left blank rather than filled from third-party listings.

Pros
  • A.I. Dialogue Mode is the clearest dialogue treatment in this group
  • ADAPTiQ room calibration included
  • Compact 41-inch bar suits smaller media consoles
Cons
  • No subwoofer included — bass modules are a separate, expensive purchase
  • No HDMI input or video passthrough; all sources must connect to the TV
  • Bose publishes no support phone or email on the product page

Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000)

AmRank Score 86 $1,500

Best for: Sony BRAVIA TV and PS5 owners who want a wide, single-bar soundstage with 4K/120 and 8K passthrough, and may add Sony's wireless sub and rears later.

Single bar · no sub included13 drivers · 360 Spatial Sound MappingAtmos · DTS:X · IMAX EnhancedHDMI 2.1 · 4K/120 · 8K passVoice Zoom 3 · Bravia Connect app

Product review

The Bar 9 puts 13 speaker units in a 51-inch bar and uses Sony's 360 Spatial Sound Mapping to create phantom speakers beyond its physical 5.0.2 layout — a wider, more open soundstage than most single bars manage, at the cost of precision you only get from real rear speakers. It is also the best-connected single bar here for gamers: one HDMI 2.1 input with 4K/120, 8K, VRR and ALLM passthrough, plus Acoustic Center Sync with compatible BRAVIA TVs. Owner evidence is mixed in a specific way — sound quality is praised (4.3 out of 5 across Target's Sony-syndicated reviews) while bass output and the app draw complaints — which is exactly what its score reflects.

The company

Sony is a major Japanese electronics maker with a large US support operation; its support team publishes the [email protected] contact in its own retailer Q&A answers. The Bar 9 carries a 12-month limited warranty — the class standard, confirmed in retailer warranty listings.

Pros
  • Widest single-bar soundstage here via 360 Spatial Sound Mapping
  • HDMI 2.1 passthrough: 4K/120, 8K, VRR, ALLM for PS5 and Xbox
  • Expands with Sony SA-SW3/SW5 subs and SA-RS rear speakers
Cons
  • No subwoofer or remote control in the box; control runs through the TV or the Bravia Connect app
  • Bass is the recurring owner complaint until a Sony SA-SW sub is added at extra cost
  • Physical layout is 5.0.2 — the wider surround field is phantom-mapped, not discrete

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus

AmRank Score 85 $1,800

Best for: Music-and-film listeners in one room who want a single bar with real low-end extension and the field's best standard warranty.

Single bar · built-in dual subs7.1.4 virtualized · 9 drivers400W RMS · 38Hz–20kHz2-year warrantyHDMI eARC + 2 HDMI inputs

Product review

The AMBEO Plus is the most honest virtualizer in the field: Sennheiser states plainly that its 7.1.4 presentation is AMBEO virtualization (developed with Fraunhofer IIS) rendered by nine drivers — seven full-range units and two built-in 4-inch subwoofers good to a stated 38Hz — with automated self-calibration. Output is a stated 400W RMS. That built-in low end is why it works without a subwoofer purchase in small and medium rooms. Crutchfield owners rate it 4.0 out of 5 across 47 reviews — solid, not stellar — and its two-year warranty is the best standard term here. It loses ground on price at list and on the limits every virtualized bar shares.

Color Options

The company

Sennheiser's consumer audio business (Sennheiser Hearing / Sonova) sells the AMBEO line direct in the US, publishes support through its US store, and includes a two-year manufacturer warranty with the Plus — twice the standard term in this ranking and a material accountability advantage.

Pros
  • Built-in dual subwoofers reach a stated 38Hz — no sub purchase needed
  • Two-year manufacturer warranty, the best standard term in this ranking
  • Two HDMI inputs plus eARC, RCA and optical — the widest input set here
Cons
  • The 7.1.4 field is virtualization from 9 drivers — there are no discrete surround or height speakers
  • No separate subwoofer in the box; deep bass is good for a bar, not equal to a dedicated sub
  • List price is the second-highest per box here, though it is frequently discounted

7.1.4 ch · detachable rears10-inch wireless subwoofer480W RMS · MultiBeam 3.0PureVoice 2.0 dialogueHDMI eARC · 4K DV passthrough

Product review

The Bar 1000MK2 solves the rear-speaker problem by making the rears part of the bar: the end sections detach, run on rechargeable batteries behind the seating, and re-dock to charge, giving a true 7.1.4 layout with four up-firing drivers and a 10-inch wireless subwoofer at a stated 480W RMS. PureVoice 2.0 handles dialogue, and MultiBeam 3.0 widens the front stage when the rears are docked. Early owner evidence is positive (4.7 out of 5 across 58 Target ratings syndicated from jbl.com) but thin, because the MK2 is a recent refresh of the Bar 1000 — the main reason it sits below the more proven systems above it.

Color Options
Black

The company

JBL is Harman International's consumer brand (a Samsung subsidiary), sold through JBL.com and major US retailers, with US support published through Harman's support pages. Retailer warranty listings for the Bar series list a one-year limited warranty.

Pros
  • True rear speakers without speaker wire or permanent placement
  • 10-inch subwoofer and 480W RMS — strong output for the price
  • Detachable speakers double as portable speakers for another room
Cons
  • Detachable rears run on batteries — they must be re-docked to recharge
  • Surround effect depends on remembering to detach and place the rears
  • Newer MK2 model: long-term owner evidence is still thin (58 ratings at Target at screening)

Samsung HW-Q800F Q-Series Soundbar (5.1.2) product photo
#7

Samsung HW-Q800F Q-Series Soundbar (5.1.2)

AmRank Score 83 $1,100

Best for: Buyers who want most of the Q990F's front-stage performance and a real subwoofer, without placing rear speakers.

5.1.2 ch · bar + wireless subDolby Atmos · DTS:XCompact sub · 8-inch passive radiatorQ-Symphony · SpaceFit Sound Pro1 HDMI in · HDMI eARC

Product review

The Q800F is Samsung's 5.1.2 step-down: side- and top-firing drivers in the bar, a redesigned compact wireless subwoofer with a 6.5-inch active driver and 8-inch passive radiator, SpaceFit Sound Pro calibration, and Q-Symphony for Samsung TVs. It keeps an HDMI input alongside eARC, which much of the mid-range drops. B&H owners rate it 4.8 out of 5 across 205 reviews — the strongest satisfaction evidence in the midfield. It ranks below the systems with real rears because its surround field is necessarily front-weighted, and its $1,099.99 list price is frequently undercut by discounts on the Q990F itself, which compresses its value case at list.

Color Options
Black

The company

Samsung supports the Q800F through the same published US support line and Samsung.com channels as the Q990F, with a one-year parts-and-labor warranty. Samsung's pattern of deep, frequent discounting on this line is documented in the price history cited in the dossier.

Pros
  • Real wireless subwoofer with a compact footprint, redesigned for 2025
  • Strong owner record: 4.8/5 across 205 B&H reviews
  • HDMI input plus eARC, and SpaceFit Sound Pro calibration
Cons
  • No rear speakers included or bundled path in this SKU — surround is front-based with side-firing drivers
  • Height effects come from two up-firing channels only
  • List price sits close to discounted prices for the Q990F system above it

LG S95TR Soundbar (9.1.5)

AmRank Score 81 $1,600

Best for: LG OLED TV owners who want the matching full system — bar, sub and wireless rears with an up-firing center channel — in one box.

9.1.5 ch · bar + sub + rears810W · 5 up-firing speakersCenter up-firing channelWOW Orchestra · WOW InterfaceAI Room Calibration Pro

Product review

The S95TR is LG's complete-box answer to Samsung's flagship: 9.1.5 channels, a stated 810W, five up-firing speakers including an up-firing center channel aimed at dialogue, a wireless subwoofer and wireless rear speakers, plus AI Room Calibration Pro. On paper it matches the Q990F's formula; in owner evidence it does not. At Best Buy it holds 4.3 out of 5 across 231 reviews with 86% recommending it, but the negative reviews cluster on exactly the thing the center up-firing channel is meant to fix — dialogue level against effects. That gap between specification and owner record is why a full system on paper ranks eighth here.

Color Options
Black

The company

LG Electronics USA sells the S95TR through LG.com and major retailers and publishes US support through its 1-800-243-0000 line and LG support pages. Warranty is one year parts and labor, the class standard.

Pros
  • Complete system in one box: bar, sub and wireless rears
  • Up-firing center channel is a direct attempt at the dialogue problem
  • Deep LG TV integration: WOW Orchestra, WOW Interface, WOWCAST-ready
Cons
  • Owner reports are divided on dialogue — some Best Buy reviewers find voices quiet against effects
  • Best features (WOW Orchestra, WOW Interface) require a compatible LG TV
  • Frequently discounted by $600 or more, so list price is a poor guide to its real cost

#9The Buck4Buck — best value in this category, American Ranking Institute award badge

Sonos Beam (Gen 2)

AmRank Score 79 $499

Best for: Smaller rooms and TVs up to 65 inches that want clear dialogue, Sonos multiroom and an upgrade path, in a 25.6-inch bar.

Single bar · 25.6 in wideVirtualized Dolby Atmos5 drivers · 3 passive radiatorsSpeech Enhancement · TrueplayHDMI eARC · AirPlay 2

Product review

The Beam (Gen 2) is the compact Sonos bar: five drivers and three passive radiators in a 25.6-inch cabinet, with a faster processor than the first Beam creating phantom height channels for Dolby Atmos. Sonos does not hide the mechanism — its own page describes a virtual surround experience — and scored as virtualization, it is very good: dialogue-led tuning, Speech Enhancement, and balanced output at low volumes for late-night viewing. Sonos's store rates it 4.5 out of 5 across about 2,700 reviews, the deepest owner base in this ranking. It is the easiest recommendation here for a small room, and it is priced like it: $499 buys the bar alone.

Color Options
BlackWhite

The company

Sonos sells the Beam (Gen 2) direct with the same published US support channels as the Arc Ultra and a one-year US limited warranty. The model has been in the line since 2021, so parts, mounts and support documentation are mature.

Pros
  • Best compact-bar dialogue clarity for the money
  • Deep, proven owner base and mature Sonos platform support
  • Expands later with Sub Mini and Era speakers as surrounds
Cons
  • Atmos height is phantom — the Beam has no up-firing drivers
  • Trueplay tuning requires an iOS device, even though the bar itself works with any TV
  • No Bluetooth streaming; music runs over Wi-Fi or AirPlay 2

VIZIO 5.1 Soundbar SE (SV510X-0806)

AmRank Score 77 $250

Best for: Budget buyers who want real 5.1 surround — physical rear speakers and a subwoofer — for the price of a basic stereo bar.

5.1 ch · bar + sub + 2 surroundsVirtualized Atmos · DTS:XSurrounds wire to subwooferHDMI eARC · BluetoothNo remote in box · app control

Product review

The 5.1 Soundbar SE is the value case in physical form: three full-range drivers in a 33-inch bar, two separate surround speakers and a compact wireless subwoofer delivering a stated 96dB — real 5.1 channels, with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X height handled by virtualization rather than up-firing drivers. The compromises are operational, and they are specific: no remote is included, settings live in the VIZIO app behind a VIZIO account, and the surrounds wire back to the subwoofer. Amazon's listing data (about 1,460 reviews, averaging roughly 4.1) shows owners split along exactly those lines — value praised, app control criticized. At $249.99 list it costs a tenth of the flagship systems and still puts speakers behind you.

Color Options

The company

VIZIO is a US TV and audio brand (Irvine, California; now a Walmart subsidiary) that publishes US support through support.vizio.com and its support line. The SV510X-0806 carries a one-year warranty per its Amazon listing data — standard at this price, with support by app, web and phone.

Pros
  • True 5.1 with physical surrounds and a subwoofer at a $249.99 list price
  • QuickFit mounting attaches directly to compatible VIZIO TVs
  • HDMI eARC connection with TV-remote volume control
Cons
  • No remote control in the box — settings require the VIZIO app and a VIZIO account
  • Height effects are virtualized; there are no up-firing drivers
  • Surround speakers are wired to the subwoofer, which limits sub placement

VIZIO 5.1 Soundbar SE (SV510X-0806)

The verdict

The Samsung HW-Q990F wins because it is the only top system that does not ask you to believe in its channel count: eleven ear-level channels, one subwoofer and four height channels are delivered by speakers that are actually in those positions, with the rears and sub in the box, two HDMI 2.1 inputs, and a 4.7-out-of-5 owner record across roughly 700 Samsung ratings. It is the pick for a movie-first living room that can place rear speakers. If your room cannot, the honest alternatives are the Sonos Arc Ultra for the strongest single bar, the Bose Smart Ultra for dialogue, and — at a tenth of the flagship's price — the VIZIO 5.1 Soundbar SE, which still puts real speakers behind you.

Questions, answered

What does the channel notation mean — and which of these numbers are real?

The format is ear-level channels . subwoofers . height channels, so 11.1.4 means eleven ear-level channels, one subwoofer channel and four height channels. Whether those channels are real depends on the hardware: the Samsung Q990F and JBL Bar 1000MK2 ship physical rear speakers, so their surround channels are discrete. Single bars such as the Sonos Beam (Gen 2), Sennheiser AMBEO Plus and VIZIO SE render height or surround channels virtually, from drivers that all sit in front of you — this ranking names that distinction in every product's chips and review rather than repeating the headline number unqualified.

Do I need a separate subwoofer?

For film effects below about 50Hz, yes, in most rooms — a soundbar cabinet cannot move enough air. Five of the top ten include a subwoofer in the box (both Samsungs, the JBL and the LG kits, and the VIZIO). Among the single bars, the Sennheiser AMBEO Plus goes furthest without one, with built-in dual woofers rated to 38Hz; the Sonos and Bose bars treat the sub as an optional, and expensive, second purchase.

HDMI eARC or optical — does it matter?

Yes. Dolby Atmos from streaming apps and consoles, and lossless formats such as Dolby TrueHD, need HDMI eARC (or an HDMI input on the bar itself). Optical cannot carry them. Every product in the top 10 connects by HDMI eARC; the bars with an additional HDMI input — the Samsungs, Sony, Sennheiser and JBL — also let a console or player plug into the bar and pass video to the TV, which matters for 4K/120 gaming.

Where should rear speakers go, and what if I can't place them?

Just behind or beside the seating, roughly at ear height, angled toward the listeners; the Samsung and LG rears are wireless for signal but still need a power outlet each, while JBL's detachable rears run on batteries and re-dock on the bar. If your room cannot take rears at all, a strong single bar (Arc Ultra, Bose Smart Ultra, AMBEO Plus) is the better buy than a kit whose rears end up in a closet — you would be paying for channels you never hear.

Why do list prices here differ from the prices in stores this week?

Soundbars are among the most heavily promoted categories in consumer electronics. This ranking scores value on the regular list price stated at the top of the dossier and flags the large sale prices observed during research — the Bose Smart Ultra at $679 against a $999 list, the AMBEO Plus at $1,199.95 against $1,799.95, the S95TR $600 or more below list — because a ranking that chased weekly promotions would be out of date on publication. Check the current street price before buying; several scores would rise at their sale prices.

Prices are typical US street prices observed during research and change often — check the retailer for the current price. AmRank may earn a commission from links on this page; commissions never change a score. See the affiliate disclosure and methodology.
